how come in the actual books they never put 'chan' in them?

anonymous

cuz chan is something they put at the end of a name in Japan, I think it's for respect or something like that.  same thing with Goku.  son Goku

anonymous

Actually, I believe 'Son Goku' is a Chinese name. The '-chan' suffix is part of the Japanese language's politeness structure. To put it an often-used ladder form: -chan is lower than -san, itself lower from -sama. -chan is often used for people you are very close to or more commonly to children. Even then, mostly to girls. There are more and even amalgamations such as '-chama.'

Yes. Japanese is insane.

is "-kun" the male version of "-chan"?
anonymous
yup, meffogonzo, -kun is for little boys, -chan is for little girls.
anonymous

kun is a formal suffix for Acquaintances or friends and chan is an informal for very close friends, san is the one for respect   it does not depend on genre.
