The same reason people inform us about the perceived superiority of cats over dogs.

Because they can.

(And when was the last time a cat carried you out of a burning building?  Cats are too smart to be pets; they keep humans, not the other way around.  A dog will love you for life, but a cat just sees you as a Meow Mix fetcher.)

Heh, even some cats in Azu are drawn realistically. The kitten (well, before it gets the blank whit eyes), the stuffed iriomote cat, and (manga only) the cats that inspire Sakaki to try taking pictures of them.
