watashi wa chotto nihon-go o hanashimasu, (i speak a little...)

if you want to learn japanese it's a good idea to take a class, don't just watch anime and pick up a few words and insert them randomly into everyday speech (like some people i've encountered), it's a high-context language

the PIE avenger! =3

i can't stand it when people randomly insert "kawaii" into a conversation. do they think they're cool be doing that? it isn't cool, it's just a language. sheesh, if you can speak english just say "cute!!" e_e it's like this: reading this manga and yotsuba has a cute outfit. ransom person commenting: OMG!! EEK!! KAWAII!!! when  I would say "OMG she is sooo CUTE!" SAY CUTE!! SAY CUTE!!! AHHHHHHH!!

anonymous

i agree with pie avenger x.x when ppl at my school see my little bro, they go like OOO KAWAIII even the non azns D:*note = im not being racist, but azns have their language and others have their language, thats how life works*

anonymous

"kawaii" is a cute world. Cuter than "cute" it self.  Get a grip, in Japan many people say "Hi", "Bye bye", "Thank you" etc too. Think where the word "Domai" comes from?  It is called globalisation and interaction. When people encounter each other,  their language start to mix. It is a natural. Don't scream out like that. If you want to keep your language pure, you better seal off your boarder and unplug net work cables and confiscate the TVs, radios etc etc.

anonymous

I meant it is natural, not a natural.  Typo

anonymous

word, not world, sorry typo

Loffyglu

On the subject of Japanese, I've been trying to teach myself with some websites I found and help from a friend who knows quite a bit. XD I've got the hang of basic grammar, I think, and I can write a few hiragana characters without much trouble...

It's a work in process but I'll keep pushing on! |D

...And it doesn't annoy me all that much when people use words like "kawaii".. I personally don't do it, but as they say, live and let live.

anonymous

I'm taking Japanese 1 currently, and it's a lot harder than most people think, though it is nice to be able to pick up phrases in some Japanese Conversations I hear.

o_O

Learning kanji is the hardest part of Japanese, I think. I found hiragana and katakana not that hard to memorize, and Japanese grammar is quite simple (sentences go noun-object-verb instead of noun-verb-object, that's all), but kanji is a bitch.

anonymous

Kneehongo

anonymous

I really dislike it when people put "KAWAII" in their sentences...

The majority of the time, they don't pronounce it right, making me extra narked.

Smelly weeaboos! Agh!

b

{#undefined}

annie

moshi moshi=hi

anonymous

Don't be so happy, Yotsiba. That bird is an omen of death. Never see the Omen?

anonymous

Did the translator mean "pretty" instead of "clean?" I know that "kirei" can mean both. Unless it was Yotsuba who was making the mistake heh. She does do that.

anonymous

I agree with o_O, but to me the particles are harder than Kanji for me (I can read some Chinese and Kanji are pretty much like Chinese writings, except there are some difference in meanings and sometime, the way they are written). I have Japanese class and it is difficult too.

anonymous

I really don't see what's wrong about using words from other languages. I mean, if you ever do go to another country, the most valuable things to learn are the little things that are such a big part of everyday life. besides, it's fun to say kawaii. {#undefined} Anyway, if we all could speak a little bit of the same language- in essence, understand each other a bit- it would help to take the "otherness" from different races and bring a bit more togetherness. It would kinda remind us that there is only one true race -humanity.

anonymous

yah???

why do they have that san part???

Biggie-San

i don't get why they put "san" after a noun?

translation please...!

meffogonzo
i can say "darn" but i dont know how to spell it... its like "kxooah!" haha. - and a lot of us'll know "Hai" - (yes sir/ma'am), "baka" - (idiot), "ohayo gozaimas" (polite good morning), "domo/arigato/gozaimas" - (thankyou/very much/politely) - is that right? then theres "ah" (which seems to be a colloquial "yeah")... "sayonara" - (goodbye), "konnichiwa" (hello), "ichi ni san shi go" (one two three four five)... "sensai" (teacher/professor/doctor), urrmmm..... "yatta!" (yaay!)...
