Look at Yotsuba and how happy she is, ain't there enough proof that he is good dad. Very late, but in response to ufo's comment...

Early in the series, Koiwai states that she was found as an orphan while he was overseas. He took her in and soon began raising her as his own. It's never made clear exactly where she's from, though I think Mrs. Ayase guessed that she was from Hawaii in volume 2. That's also what I kinda think, truth be told, but again it's never made totally clear.
